Winter Update: What We’re Reading, Learning, & Planning
What We’re Reading
As we prepare our Summer 2023 Camp Quill Courses, we’re having so much fun reading through our summer “textbooks” and mapping out the games, activities, and lessons we have in store for our future Learners. The fun thing about reading is getting to explore new places. The books we’re reading are literally taking us to the tops of mountains, to the bottom of the ocean, and through the most beautiful biomes. Reviews and resources on all of the above coming soon!
What We’re Learning
Three things we’re really enjoying learning right now from these novels, collections, and our independent research:
Explorers can teach us a lot about what it takes to complete, to achieve, and to serve. Not all the explorers we’re studying succeeded at their assigned or expected missions, but God is revealing there are other victories that are greater, often, than the ones we set for ourselves.
Perspective is important in terms of how we read and interpret historical events. We hope our Grade 6+ students really come to understand and appreciate thinking through this concept as we discuss explorers this summer.
Humpback whales are incredible creatures, but we’re kinda diggin’ learning all about krill! From feeding those massive marine mammals to birds and fish, these tiny things are actually a pretty big deal.
What We’re Planning
Spring course prep is underway for our weekend picture book club and creative writing courses beginning in March. As alluded to above, we’re also working on our Summer Camp Quill Resources. We’re hoping to get your thoughts on materials that may be useful for you. Feel free to check out the resources we have in our Shop and suggest new ones on our Free Resources page.
“A strong team, good preparation and a bit of effort, and you can manage almost anything.”
